Q: What is The Senior’s Girl Friday, and what do you do?
A: The Senior’s Girl Friday is a personal concierge and assistant service based in Johnson City, Tennessee, owned and operated by Pia Olsson. We specialize in supporting seniors and their families with the everyday tasks that can feel overwhelming — from organizing your home and dhandling paperwork, to running errands and accompanying you to appointments. Think of us as
a trusted, capable extra set of hands. We’re not a home health agency or medical provider — we’re a personal assistant who genuinely cares about making your daily life easier and more comfortable.
Q: What areas do you serve?
A: We primarily serve the greater Johnson City, Tennessee area, including the Tri-Cities region. If you’re unsure whether we can reach you, just ask — we’ll always do our best to accommodate.
Q: How do I book a service?
A: Simply call or message Pia directly to get started. We’ll have a brief conversation about what you need, discuss scheduling, confirm the rate, and get you set up. First-time clients will complete a short Client Intake Form and a General Service Agreement before services begin — this protects both of us and makes sure we’re on the same page from the start.
Q: How much notice do you need to schedule a visit?
A: We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice whenever possible, though we understand that life doesn’t always cooperate. We will always do our best to accommodate urgent or last-minute requests. The more notice you can give, the easier it is to make sure everything is ready for you.
Q: Do you work evenings or weekends?
A: Yes, with advance notice. Evening and weekend appointments are available and are subject to a $25.00 scheduling fee for notary services. For general services, please discuss availability and any applicable scheduling fees when you book.
Q: Are you insured?
A: Please ask Pia directly about current insurance coverage when you reach out. We are committed to operating professionally and responsibly, and we’re happy to answer any questions about how we protect both our clients and ourselves.

Q: How are services billed — by the hour or by the job?
A: Most services are billed at $35.00 per hour, with a one-hour minimum for every visit. After the first hour, time is billed in 15-minute increments. For some services, a flat project rate may be agreed upon in advance — we’ll always confirm the rate with you before any work begins so there are no surprises.
Q: How does the mileage charge work?
A: Any driving performed on your behalf — errands, transportation, pickup runs — is billed at $0.72 per mile. This is measured from the point of departure to the final destination and back. We maintain a mileage log for all driving, and you’re welcome to request a copy at any time.
Q: How do I pay?
A: We accept cash, personal check (made payable to The Senior’s Girl Friday), Venmo, and Zelle. Payment is generally due at the time of service or within the terms of your signed Service Agreement. If you have a specific payment preference, just let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
Q: What if a job takes longer than expected?
A: We’ll always try to give you a heads-up if it looks like a task is going to run over. If it does, the additional time is simply billed at the standard $35.00/hour rate in 15-minute increments. We’ll never rack up extra time without your knowledge — communication is part of the service.
Q: Do you require a deposit?
A: A deposit is required for notary visits to correctional facilities (see the Notary section below). For general services, deposits are not typically required, though this may be discussed for larger or multi-day projects.
Q: Do you accept Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance?
A: No — The Senior’s Girl Friday is a private-pay service and does not bill Medicare, Medicaid, or any insurance provider. That said, here’s something worth knowing: Original Medicare does not cover the types of services we provide — companion visits, errand running, transportation to non-medical appointments, household organization, and personal concierge support are all considered “non-medical custodial care” and are explicitly excluded from standard Medicare coverage. Some Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans may offer limited companion or in-home support benefits, but coverage varies widely by plan and is often restricted in scope. Long-term care insurance policies may cover some personal care services depending on the terms of your individual policy — it’s worth a call to your provider to check.
Q: If insurance doesn’t cover your services, is it really affordable?
A: We think so — and here’s why. At $35.00 per hour, our rate is often comparable to — or even less than — what many clients pay in copays and deductibles for agency-based services. But unlike an agency, we offer something they simply cannot: you will see the same face every single visit. No strangers rotating through your home. No explaining your preferences to someone new every week. No wondering who’s showing up at the door. You get Pia — one person, consistent, dependable, and genuinely invested in your wellbeing. Our services also cover far more ground than most insurance-approved care plans allow. We’re not limited by a treatment plan or a billing code. If you need it and we can do it, we’ll do it. That flexibility and consistency is something no insurance plan can package — and for many of our clients, it’s exactly what makes the difference.

Q: What if I need to cancel last minute?

Q: What if Pia needs to cancel or reschedule?
A: We will provide as much notice as possible and work with you to find an alternative time. Your time matters and we take our commitments seriously.

Q: How do I know I can trust someone coming into my home?
A: We completely understand this concern, and we take it seriously. Pia Olsson is a local, owner-operated businessperson — not an agency sending strangers. We encourage clients and their families to ask questions, meet with Pia in advance, and take as much time as they need to feel comfortable before services begin. Trust is built over time, and we’re in no rush.
Q: Are you background checked?
A: Please ask Pia directly about background check status when you reach out. We are committed to operating with full transparency and are happy to discuss our screening practices.
Q: How do you protect my personal information?
A: Your privacy is taken very seriously. All personal information you share with us — including health details, financial information, home access, and family matters — is kept strictly confidential and never shared with outside parties except as required by law. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for full details on how your information is collected, stored, and protected.
Q: What if there’s a medical emergency during a visit?
A: If a client experiences a medical emergency, we will call 911 immediately, stay with the client until help arrives, and contact the client’s emergency contact as listed on file. We are not medical providers and cannot administer medical treatment, but we will make sure you are never left alone in a crisis. This is exactly why we collect emergency contact information when you first sign on as a client.
Q: Do you work with clients who have dementia or memory issues?
A: Yes. We have experience supporting seniors with a range of cognitive and physical needs. We work patiently, consistently, and with compassion. If a client has specific needs related to memory or cognition, we ask that family members share any relevant care information so we can serve your loved one in the way that works best for them.

Q: Can you check on my parent or loved one regularly?
A: Absolutely. Regular wellness check-in visits, companionship calls, and scheduled errand assistance are some of the most common services we provide for families who live at a distance or simply want extra peace of mind. We can set up a recurring schedule that works for everyone.
Q: Can you keep the family updated after visits?
A: Yes. With the client’s permission, we are happy to send a brief update to a designated family member after each visit — a quick note about how things went, anything we noticed, or tasks completed. Just let us know your preference when you sign on.
Q: My parent is resistant to accepting help. Any advice?
A: This is very common. Sometimes it helps for a family member to frame the service as “a little extra help around the house” rather than care. We always approach new clients with patience and without pressure, letting trust build naturally over time. A simple first visit — even just a friendly conversation and one small errand — can go a long way toward making a client feel comfortable.
Q: Can you coordinate with other care providers (home health aides, doctors’ offices, etc.)?
A: We can communicate and coordinate as needed with the client’s permission. We are not a medical provider, so we defer to licensed care professionals on all health-related decisions — but we’re happy to help with logistics, scheduling, transportation, and communication support.

Q: Can you take my pet to the vet?
A: Yes. We provide pet transport to veterinary appointments as part of our personal concierge services. Before we can transport your pet, you’ll need to complete our Veterinary Care & Transport Authorization Agreement, which designates us as your authorized representative and outlines your preferences for emergency care.
Q: What if there’s a veterinary emergency while my pet is in your care?
A: Your completed Veterinary Care & Transport Authorization Agreement will specify your preferred veterinary clinic and your treatment authorization level — either full authorization for any necessary treatment, or a dollar limit per animal. We will follow your instructions and keep you informed throughout. All veterinary costs remain the client’s responsibility.
Q: Who is responsible for veterinary bills?
A: All veterinary charges are the sole responsibility of the client. We act as your authorized agent for the purpose of obtaining care — we never assume financial responsibility for medical treatment. This is clearly outlined in the Veterinary Care & Transport Authorization Agreement.
Q: What kinds of pets do you work with?
A: We have experience with dogs — including senior dogs and high-drive breeds — and can administer medications or special diets as directed. If your pet has special handling needs, please share that information when you book so we can make sure it’s a good fit.

Q: Are you a licensed notary in Tennessee?
A: Yes. Pia Olsson is a commissioned Notary Public in the State of Tennessee. Notary services are available as a convenient add-on to existing client services, as well as to the general public.
Q: What documents can you notarize?
A: Common documents include powers of attorney, wills and trusts, affidavits, medical directives (living wills, healthcare proxies), real estate documents, consent forms, and financial documents. If you’re not sure whether your document qualifies, just ask.
Q: Can you come to my home or a care facility to notarize documents?
A: Yes. Mobile notary services are available for in-home visits, as well as visits to hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. See the Service Menu & Pricing for applicable fees.
Q: Can you go to a prison or jail to notarize documents?
A: Yes. We provide notary services at correctional facilities, including prisons and jails. Because of the additional complexity involved — security processing, wait times, and facility scheduling — the fee structure for correctional facility visits is different from standard mobile notary visits. Please see the Service Menu & Pricing and Cancellation & Payment Policy for full details.
Q: My family member is incarcerated. How does payment work — they can’t pay you directly?
A: That’s correct — inmates cannot pay outside vendors directly from their trust or commissary accounts. In virtually all cases, payment is arranged by a family member or designated representative on the outside. Here’s how it works:
Before the visit, Senior’s Girl Friday calculates a full estimated fee based on: the $100.00 base fee, round-trip mileage at $0.72/mile, estimated wait time beyond the first hour at $35.00/hr (based on what you tell us, or a default of 2 hours assumed if unknown), and an estimated per- signature fee of $10.00 per signature (defaulting to 2 signatures if unknown). The full estimated total is collected before Pia departs for the facility.
After the visit, Pia reconciles the estimate against the actual time spent and signatures notarized. If the visit was shorter or required fewer signatures than estimated, a refund for the difference is issued within 24 hours via the same payment method. If the visit ran longer than estimated, a small additional invoice is sent within 24 hours, due within 48 hours.
Example: $100.00 base + $14.40 mileage + $35.00 estimated wait + $20.00 estimated 2 signatures = $169.40 collected upfront. Actual visit: 30 minutes, 1 signature = $124.40. Refund of $45.00 issued within 24 hours.
A $50.00 non-refundable deposit (applied toward the total) is required at booking. Think of it like an attorney’s retainer — you pay the estimated amount, the work gets done, and any unused portion comes back to you promptly. It’s simpler and fairer for everyone.
Q: What if the facility won’t let you in?
A: Unfortunately, access to correctional facilities is entirely at the discretion of the institution, and denial of entry does happen. This is why the $50.00 deposit is non-refundable — it covers the time and preparation involved in booking and traveling to the facility. If entry is denied through no fault of the client, no additional charges beyond the deposit will be billed. If the visit is rescheduled by the facility, we will work with you to find a new date at no additional booking fee.
Q: What if the inmate is not mentally able to sign or understand the document?
A: As a notary, Pia is required by law to verify that the signer understands what they are signing and is acting of their own free will. If there is any question about the signer’s capacity, the notarization cannot proceed. This is not a judgment — it is a legal requirement that protects everyone involved, including the signer. If this is a concern, please discuss it before scheduling the visit.
Q: Do I need to do anything to prepare for a notary visit at a correctional facility?
A: Yes — the client or their representative is responsible for confirming the following with the facility before booking:
That the visit is approved and scheduled with facility staff;
That the inmate has valid ID available;
Any specific documentation or identification requirements the facility may have for outside visitors.
Coming prepared saves everyone time and increases the likelihood of a smooth visit.
